GOP FLIP: Durant Scores Upset Win in District 28

Victory Comes Despite Being Outspent By 2:1 in a Biden District

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Republican Tara Durant tonight secured a victory over Democrat incumbent Joshua Cole to flip House District 28. Durant’s victory came despite being outspent by 2:1 in a district Biden won by double digits in 2020.

Durant was also part of the RSLC’s “Right Leaders Network,” the committee’s recently announced initiative to enhance its efforts to support more women and minority candidates in state races to help grow the Republican Party from the ground up.

Tara Durant ran a fantastic race, appealing to a broad coalition of voters united in their opposition to the radical policies coming out of Richmond,” said RSLC President Dee Duncan. “In the face of misleading attacks from her opponent, Tara focused on addressing the pressing issues of her community. The RSLC was proud to stand with a leader like Tara who will prioritize improving Virginia’s education system, fostering safe communities, and lowering the cost of living.”

The RSLC and its affiliated groups invested heavily in Durant’s race, including in television ads launched in August in opposition to Cole.
