RSLC Statement on Maine Primary

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) President Dee Duncan issued the following statement in response to tonight’s primary results in Maine:

“From gas, to heating oil, to health care -- you name it and Maine Democrats have tried to tax it. Mainers are already cash-strapped thanks to record gas prices and inflation, and they simply can no longer afford a Democrat-controlled Legislature that thinks the solution to every problem is a tax hike. Getting Maine’s economy on track instead requires a new crop of independent-minded leaders who are not afraid to stand up to President Biden’s failed agenda. The Republican state legislative candidates nominated tonight have what it takes to go to Augusta and put the people of Maine above a partisan agenda. We look forward to continuing to invest in Maine so we can support our nominees in their effort to flip as many seats as possible from blue to red in November.”

The RSLC In Maine

The RSLC in March announced that it would be targeting the Maine Legislature in 2022 and billed it as a state in which Republicans can make meaningful gains in a liberal stronghold.

The committee has included Maine in its “Biden Remorse” national ad campaign that began in April. The campaign targets Americans who regret voting for Joe Biden and his alleged “return to normalcy” in 2020, as they are now being dealt higher prices, a lack of control in their children’s education, and fear of crime in their once-safe neighborhoods. The two ads from this campaign that have run in Maine include:“Biden TaxBack to Normal

Maine was also included in the RSLC’s "Pay the Price," a digital ad underscoring how failed liberal policies at the state level are crippling domestic energy production, resulting in record high gas prices and a dependence on dictators for oil.

The RSLC released "Sorry Pup" and "Credits," two videos highlighting how Maine Democrats voted to raise taxes on pet food and a gas tax.
