RSLC Unveils Strategic GOTV Initiative in Virginia and New Jersey
Committee Will Invest $2 Million in Canvassing, with Additional Investments in Digital Advertising, Direct Mail, and Texting Through Election Day
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) and its affiliated PACs today announced the launch of a robust paid GOTV canvassing program in Virginia and New Jersey. With over $2 million committed to the effort, it is one of the most significant investments by the committee to date this year. The initiative is a key part of the RSLC’s strategy to spend early in 2025 in order to beat back an onslaught of funding from national liberal billionaires who hope this year will be the next 2017.
In Virginia, RSLC PAC will partner on canvassing operations with the House Republican Campaign Committee to ensure that field operations are adequately tailored to local needs and focused on strengthening the connection between Republican candidates and their constituents. The investment also includes a range of digital ads, direct mail, and texting aimed at targeting swing and persuadable voters in select districts.
“In 2023, the RSLC made a strategic investment in a comprehensive early and absentee vote program in both Virginia and New Jersey that resulted in significant victories for down-ballot Republicans in 2020 Biden-won districts and record-breaking turnout in others,” said RSLC President Edith Jorge-Tuñón. “Our commitment to a strong paid GOTV program that seeks to engage voters early on issues that matter to them will be essential in empowering and informing the electorate on the importance of this year’s elections. This personal approach aims to engage communities more directly and enhance local participation in a way no other group has done before. We recognize the challenges ahead, but with focused initiatives like this, we are ready to defy the odds in Virginia and New Jersey in 2025."
Background
In 2023, the RSLC launched Secure Your Vote Virginia in conjunction with Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC to raise awareness to the early and absentee voting process. From our target universe we generated a 26% increase in absentee ballot requests from 2021 and a 32% increase in absentee ballot returns. In total, between AB/EV, we secured 26% of our target universe turnout goal heading into Election Day and converted twice as many low-propensity voters as we had set out to do. With the help of Governor Youngkin and his Spirit of Virginia PAC, we successfully increased AB/EV by 5.5% when compared to 2021.
The committee invested nearly $1 million in New Jersey to enhance voter engagement through absentee ballot mailings, follow-up communications, and early voting information. This effort was supported by targeted digital ads and direct text messages to voters that saw a record turnout for Republican voters.
