RSLC Statement: Pennsylvania Republicans Overcome Onslaught in National Liberal Spending to Hold State Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Pennsylvania Republicans have held control of the state Senate despite national liberal groups spending $13.7 million on state legislative races in the Keystone State.

“Congratulations to Pennsylvania Republicans on holding their majority in the state Senate,” said RSLC President Dee Duncan. “This critical victory, in the face of unprecedented Democrat spending, ensures Pennsylvanians have a last line of defense against Joe Biden’s disastrous liberal agenda that Democrats are trying to thrust on them. The RSLC is proud to have made significant investments to hold the line in the Keystone State.”

The RSLC invested a total of $2.2 million on state legislative races in Pennsylvania this year, including on independent expenditure campaigns to successfully hold two key state Senate districts (SD-6SD-40).

National liberal groups like the States ProjectForward Majoritythe Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, and others made clear their goal was to flip chambers in Pennsylvania’s state legislature from red to blue and spent big to do so. Their mammoth investments allowed Democrats to outspend Republicans $12.6 million to $9.9 million on television in state legislative races.

  • States Project: $8.4 million

  • State Victory Action: $3.4 million

  • Forward Majority: $1.7 million

  • Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee: $535,388

  • National Democratic Redistricting Committee: $62,500

  • Swing Left: $141,000

The battle for control of Pennsylvania’s state House is still unresolved.
